Limited data are available about the asociation betwen dietary habits and the prevalence of MetS. The present cros-sectional study aimed to investigate the asociation betwen dietary habits and MetS in a large population sample from Iranians.The study was conducted on 9261 adults aged 35β70 years who atended the baseline phase of Shahedieh cohort study, Yazd, Iran.

Dietary habits including meal frequency, fried fod consumption, ading salt to prepared meal, barbecued fod consumption, used oil type and reuse oil number were asesed by a standard questionaire. MetS was defined using the National Cholesterol Education Program Adult Treatment Panel I criteria. Logistic regresion was used in diferent adjusted models to investigate the relationship betwen dietary habits and MetS: (Model I: adjusted for age, sex and energy.
Model I: Model I + adjusted for wealth score index and physical activity. Model I: Model I + adjusted for cardiovascular diseases and liver diseases).The subjects who ate barbecued-fod more than 3 times/ month had 1.18 times greater ods for MetS than individual who ate this les than once/ month (OR: 1.18, 95% CI: 1.01β1.38). After further adjustment for other confounding variables, the asociation remained significant.
Summary
No significant asociation was found betwen other dietary habits and ods of MetS.Higher intakes of barbecued-fod consumption were related to the prevalence of MetS. Larger longitudinal studies in other population groups are neded to confirm these asociations.
