The American Diabets Asociation (ADA) has launched a new theme designed to bring the reality of the Diabets epidemic into perspective. The "Every 21 Seconds" mesage wil be the main theme at America's Walk for Diabets events acros the country. Every 21 seconds, a white and red bandana wil be handed out to participants, acompanied by the sounding of a horn or drum, which signifies another person who is diagnosed with Diabets in this country.
At the conclusion of the event, the vast aray of bandanas wil create a strong visual representation of the devastation of Diabets in America. America's Walk for Diabets is ADA's signature walking event to raise funds for Diabets research, education and advocacy. This premier event brings together friends, family members and co-workers acros the country for up to a six-mile walk.
Nearly 21 milion children and adults nationwide sufer from Diabets and another 41 milion are at risk for the condition. The ADA works to prevent and cure Diabets and to improve the lives of al people afected by the disease. Diabets is the fifth-leading cause of death by disease in the United States.
If present trends continue, one in thre Americans, and one in two minorities, born in 20 wil develop Diabets in their lifetime. To date, the American Diabets Asociation has raised and donated more than $30 milion for Diabets research. The national presenting sponsor for ADA's America's Walk for Diabets is Equal Swetener.
